Default Do Hackers get banned?

I recently got my account hacked again Q.Q and lost everything on it. I honestly don't think I had a virus, because I scan my computer daily after the first time I got hacked, but anyway, it happened. What I want to know is that do hackers get their accounts permabanned, or does ANET have no way of finding them. I would rather be poor than be banned And it would really suck if this hacker kept robbing the good players of Guild Wars blind. Because if they do get banned, do they just replace accounts? Because there seems to be a neverending stream of hackers.

im sry the fact that you said again is kindda sad and no offence pathetic

make a stronger password i been playing GW for 5+ years and never ever had my account hacked (knock on wood)

use a mixture of numbers letters and symbols for your password

dont use the same password for other things (such as emails and or forums)

as for your question im pretty sure they do but then again its like car insurance company their just as much as fault as you when you basically make it so easy for them to do it

You either got Phished or used an unsecure device with a Keylogger on it. Hacker's aren't hacking into NCSoft / ArenaNet's network and stealing passwords. I guess it could be possible that NCSoft / ArenaNet is banning people when the issue is ticketed after they look at some IP Log's but in reality I think that the answer is No. Anyone who's smart enough to Phish you or Keylog you is hopefully intelligent enough to disguise their IP Address.

PS: I've been in possession of my large amount of Guild Wars accounts since purchasing them, if you're being "Hacked" and this is a common occurrence the issue is with the User.
PPS: Having a strong password means absolutely nothing when people are being Keylogged. Stop downloading crap, if it's free through a method like Torrenting, News Groups, etc then it most likely is infected with something. You can argue this point all you want, Torrenting is a prime example of how people getting free things hurts them in the long run.

From what i gather - if anet does trace the hacker then usually they are permabanned , i think anet checks the ip`s of players in a type of security way - eg if a persons ip is one country and logs in with an ip from a totally diff country then they probably get a warning entry and investigated.
Accounts dont get replaced as it was stated somewhere ( not sure if anet or community ) anet doesnt delete/replace accounts but locks them.Usefull if anet accidently bans someone and re-instates their account as nothings lost.
Hackers generally dont even need to know if you have gw or not , long time ago i was hacked and my account taken and anet managed to get it bk - now understand i never download or use 3rd party programs except texmod , dont visit or use golds sites etc.
From a lil detective work within the alliance it seems what happened was the following.
Hacker got into my msn addy , changed my passwords and email passwords , then it seems tried a few online games as i dont play wow and i had a few wow messages.Took me 2 days to get email addy bk under my control and what ppl forget is - msn messenger can be abused by a hacker as it gives them a list of possible candidates for online games.
The day i got hacked it seemed someone on my msn list and in same guild had probs with their msn with logging in and a few erratic messages being sent - it seems they were targetted.
So what they do is get email addys , hack them , try any mmo`s with retrieve password ( sent to your "stolen" email addy with login details for your game ) and pilfer the goods and sell on the "stolen" account.
Ideally hackers are commiting theft and should have the law upon them by game companies - hefty fine or something as mmo companies should easily be able to prove the theft - heck they prove and ban a hacker so why not ?

Reading the above users post is highly unlikely. If you get "Hacked" it's your fault, learn from it, move on and don't let it happen again.

MOST hackers, I would say, never had an account to begin with--they just steal others, when they can--and keep taking others accounts and using them until that one is locked, get another --use until locked, etc. rinse repeat. so the ones getting the ban are usually the poor slobs who got hacked and had their account used for rmt, botting etc.....

Sorry to hear you have been hacked again.

Although Anet is trying to do whatever they can do to ban hackers it is your own duty to make sure your information is safe.

Hacking is technicly the wrong word in this. Most of them are scriptkiddy's luring you in giving them your password.

To prevent this use a strong password. For example my old school used (20 years ago) a passord Tphnbc64. Wich stands for The Password Has Now Been Changed 64 (first letters of every word, the numbers where the last numbers of the schools phonenumber). If you know the trick it is easy to remember. But it is very hard to guess.

Use a unique password for Guildwars you don't use for anything else. Specially for registering on GuildWars related sites (like this one).

You should never need to provide your password anywhere outside of the login-screen. Not on any website, not in respons on an email ever.

Seems to be a common theme among people that have been "hacked". I do not visit gold sites, use bots, or use my password anywhere else......and therefore have not had my account compromised.

To answer the OP's question:

Yes, hackers get banned. They get super-ultra-mega banned. And they also get a harshly-worded letter. I'm sure lots of them feel bad when they read the letter.

So no worries. They're being punished.

Feel better? :-)

bolded for emphasis. like another poster said, hackers aren't getting your password from ArenaNet or Guild Wars itself, they get them from forum login's or other related websites. stop using the same email address and password for everything.

Also, store your passwords in this: http://keepass.info/. Not in a "pro_passwords.txt" sitting on your desktop.

And don't store your KeePass password in a text file either.

1. There's no practical way to track these people down. The only identifying information a-net has is their IP, which can be easily obscured by a proxy or running behind a large enough NAT.

2. While it is *likely* that OP probably got phished or downloaded a keylogger, etc., it is also *possible* that OP is just another victim of the horrifically bad security at the NCMA. In the past it was possible to steal accounts directly via serious flaws in the NCMA without needing to phish, keylog, or otherwise extract information from the user in any way. OP's account info could have been obtained during that time and finally used now; or another critical flaw in the NCMA could have been discovered.

I find a pen and paper slipped under the keyboard to work just fine, but then I am a bit paranoid....

Hi guys! OP didn't ask for you to QQ about security. OP asked if people who hack/steal accounts get banned.

I would assume they can ban by IP, but if you really wanna know ask support.
